Dear Parents, Guardians and Visitors,
This website is intended to help you discover more about the life and work of St Mary’s Catholic Voluntary Academy.
Our first aim is to help your child settle well and enjoy school. We recognise that as a parent or guardian, you are the first educator of your child and we aim to work with you to encourage your child to begin to grow into an independent and responsible citizen.
St Mary’s Catholic Voluntary Academy is a good school, inspired and guided by Gospel Values. We put Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church at the centre of everything we do and aspire for academic excellence for every child, growing with Jesus ti be the best they can be. People who visit St Mary’s for the first time comment on how warm, welcoming and friendly the school is. Our “Family Atmosphere” is built on a coaching and nurturing ethos.
We’re excited to be welcoming a top GB athlete Joel Fearon to St Mary’s on 13th March with Great Athletes!
All pupils will take part in a sponsored fitness circuit led by the athlete, and come home with some important and inspiring lessons learned during a motivational assembly and Q&A session. This will also be part of our learning for British Science week.
Not only will the visit connect the pupils with an extraordinary athlete role model but will also help to raise money for new sports equipment that will improve levels of physical activity in our school!
You can sponsor your child by visiting: https://sportal.greatathletes.org/events/landing.
Please ensure that the sponsorship form and money are returned to the school office 1 week after the event has taken place. Please also make sure that your children come to school on the event day 13th of March with their PE Kits! 🏃♂️🏃♀️
Thank you in anticipation of creating a terrific and memorable event. Families are welcome to join us for the assembly at the end of the afternoon.

A reminder that World Book Day is on Thursday! 📚To celebrate, there will be a whole school assembly at 9am led by Year 6. All children are encouraged to come to school dressed as a book character. They can also bring a book to share. Teachers are planning events in their classes to champion reading 📖 🪱. We can’t wait to see your outfits!

Last week year 2 enjoyed tasting different salad ingredients to help them decide which ones they’re going to use in their salads this week. They tried an ingredient from each of the 5 food groups from the Eat Well plate 🥑🥬🫑🥒🧀🥗

What a super job Year 3 did this morning! The teachers were very proud of how the children turned their ideas about prayer into a celebration of the word. Thank you to those of the families who could join us 🙏

Year 1 have been busy making fruit salads as part of their DT topic. We have taste tested fruits in food for life sessions and selected the fruits we loved most to create our delicious fruit salad. We also learnt the bridge and claw technique for cutting safely. A special thanks to @jmfootballacademy__multisports for donating the kitchen equipment to make our lessons fun and exciting 🤩🍎🍇🍏🍊🍓🥝🥭
